SREI | Image Resource: imgnew.outlookindia.com In today’s world, the link between human trafficking and child marriage is quite prominently connected. Researchers have shown that child marriages often result in abusive treatment similar to the ones that are seen during child trafficking, which often results in physical, mental and emotional abuse.
Many people have to get violent to get their own rights but most of the time they cannot fight for themselves after some time because they have to become dependent on the abuser itself for money. In this pandemic situation, the young girls are using more social media and the elder men are trapping them with false promises. Swayangsiddha Scheme The Swayangsiddha Scheme is introduced in West Bengal where they are teaching young boys and girls abound the negative effects of child marriages and abuses. But when it comes to human trafficking, prevention is not at all enough. Rescuing them from the situation and backing them, helping in believing that they have a support system that will help them to lead a smooth and respectful life in the future as well. Mr Hemant Kanoria, the chief of the SREI Foundation has the vision to work for people from the underprivileged section of our society and also empower the women of our country too. Not many days ago, the organisation worked with the North 24 Pargana Police Department and Goranbose Gram Bikas Kendra (GGBK), a Rajarhat based NGO, which donated money for the rehabilitation of 22 human trafficking victims in the South 24 Pargana District of West Bengal. This funding is done to make these victims self-reliant from various aspects. Some victims are helped by forming ready-garments inventory from where they can earn, while others are also get trained for the skills required to run a beauty parlour. From managing grocery stores to beauty parlours, these victims are helped and trained in various ways so that they become self-dependent and they can break out from abusive relations. This initiative has also helped to create a ripple effect, as many women are empowered by this movement they now created women’s groups locally. This helps in creating more awareness and also helps women to become independent. Donation is a thing that gives momentary relief to the victims, but this scheme by SREI tries to help all these women on a long term basis. The above scheme does not help only these victim women but also they are helping their future generations also by preventing child marriage. As society is moving forward and we are developing in technologies but it is very important to keep our women and children safe. It is important to give proper shelter, food, dresses to the underprivileged women and children of our society so that they do not have to rely on others for money because they will try to advantage of them by providing these things. This is why for our society, these schemes which are initiated by SREI is very important and they should get the proper limelight so that everyone should come to know about them.
